Vibrato or Tremelo?
This is a question that has been asked several times, and it's time to address it! This particular E-mail says it all...
"About that Vibrato, it's kind of a misnomer, since
it's technically tremelo (raising/lowering of volume) though they say "Vibrato"
(raising/lowering of pitch). I don't know why instrument manufacturers
do that. Fender still does that on their amps, saying "Vibrato" when they
mean tremelo. The only company I recall actually being right was Leslie
(Electro Music), since the rotating horn/rotor raised and lowered the actual
pitch. They even gave the slow/fast speeds names:
Slow - "Chorale"
Fast - "Tremelo"
I'm not sure if that's very interesting, though I've heard of people playing
Wurly's through Leslies."
