[47] Pattons of Lincoln Co Tennessee
A. Alexander Patton was born in the 1760's; purchased 50 acres in Lincoln Co Tn in 1827. Here on the 1830 census. He sold 50 acres to L A Patton, probably a son, in 1834. Alexander is on the 1830 and 1832 tax lists (are there others?)
a. Lathan/Laban? A Patton, born 1800-02 time frame, married about 1818; on 1830 census in Lincoln Co with six children. In one week in 1836 he sold three tracts of land totalling some 430 acres. He is not found on Lincoln records after this. We then find L A Patton in the 1840 census of Taney Co Mo [later became Ozark Co] with a large family, and in 1850 in Ozark Co Mo. Here he appears to have been born in 1795 in SC, perhaps actually a bit later as census records do not always get the ages correct. Presumed to be his children:
1) Hez? Patton, b 1820 Tn, POSSIBLE son- see 1850 Ozark Co Mo census
2) Alfred Patton, b 1823 Tn, living next to LA in 1850 so presmued a son, marr Sarah Blair
3) Amanda Patton, b 1827 Tn
4 ) Calvin A. Patton, b 1829 Tn
5) Margaret Patton, b 1831 Tn
6) Samuel Patton, b 1833 Tn
7) Sarah Ann Patton, b 1834 Tn
8) Tabitha Patton, b 1837 Mo
9) Polly Ann Patton, b 1839 Mo
B. Francis Patton, born about 1770- 1774, married about 1792. This might be the Francis Patton who received a land grant for 49 ac on Rock Cr in Bedford Co Tn in 1812. In the 1820 census of Lincoln Co Francis appears with five implied sons, all born between 1774-1794; some could be hired hands? He is a principal in some ten deeds in Lincoln Co between 1821-1842; some deeds relate to Francis Jr. The 1830 tax list shows him owning 246 acres on the Elk River. He sold off thios tract in Oct 1830. The only man of this name in the 1840 Lincoln census was born in the 1790's hence Francis Jr.
a. Francis Patton Jr, b 1790s, presumed to be a son.
Was this the Francis Patton, b 1774 NC found on the 1840 and 1850 Randolph Co Missouri census and who wrote a will dated 1852 here? Or was this latter man in Woodford Co Ky in 1820??
According to the “Old Families of Randolph County”, Francis Patton was born in 1774 in Virginia and married Margaret BENTON (b 1779 Va) by about 1809. He supposedly was in Va in 1810 (no record) and later moved to KY (no date given). Francis moved to Randolph Co “around 1830" but is not on the census here until 1840. His son George Benton Patton did marry in Randolph Co in 1839 to Lucy Melton, dau of Samuel Melton (b 1796, m 1815 Albemarle Co Va, d 1839), whose family came to Mo in 1836. Lucy was born in 1820 in Ky, so if we find out which county she was born in it would be a clue. CHECK 1830 census of Ky for Saml Melton.

[48] Descendants of Robert Patton (1740s?-d 1805 Jefferson Co Tenn)
R obert Patton was born (estim.) 1746, based on the unsubstantiated date of birth of his wife. The first record we find for Robert is his marriage on 2 March 1790 in Greene Co. Tenn. to Mary Snoddy, who is said to have been born in 1748 in Philadelphia, a daughter of John and Agnes Glasgow Snoddy. (See SNODDY excursus). Her brother Thomas Snoddy lived close to Samuel Patton on Long Creek in Jefferson Co. Tenn (formed 1792 from Greene), and this suggests a tie between Robert and Samuel Patton. In addition, Thomas Snoddy performed the marriage ceremony between William Patton and Mary Edgar in 1796. William was a known brother of Samuel Patton Jr., suggesting Robert could have been another brother. Jefferson Co was formed from Greene Co in 1792 and Robert appears in court minutes as juror, (also Samuel Patton).
In Oct 1794 we read that John Patterson sold a tract on a branch of Long Creek adjacent to land of Robert Patton and Joseph [Lyon?]. We need to find a record for Robert's land. Pruitt's "Tenn. Land Entries" shows one reference to Robt Patton (item 1569) but this could be as a witness rather than as grantee. In Aug 1799 Robert was judged to owe John Maxwell $796.31 1/2. (Jeff Co Court Minutes) The only surviving early Jefferson Co. tax list is for 1800, and it shows Robert Patton with one white poll and 110 acres of land. Living close to him were also a John Patton (one poll, no land) and Thomas Patton, (one poll, 150 acres.) These three Pattons were in Capt. (Samuel) McSpaddin's Dist., but surely lived close to the Snoddy-Edgar settlement on Long Creek. [John could have been a son of Samuel Jr, who was not on tax list- went to Bedford Co TN. Who is Thomas?]
Robert Patton died intestate in Jefferson Co Tenn by 2 Oct. 1805 and Alexander Edgar was administrator. He left a tiny estate purchased by Edgar and one other man. (Jeff Co WB 1:191). No mention is made of any land and it is possible his land was sold to pay the debt to John Maxwell, as discussed above. We do not know if Robert and Mary had children, nor if he had children by a prior marriage. POSSIBLE children of Robert Patton by an assumed first marriage to an unknown woman about 1768. No relationship has been proved!
A. Robert Patton, b 1769, m Wellmet Thornbrough
B. Thomas Patton, b. by 1774, marr Martha Blakely 1803
C. William Patton, born about 1780, marr Sally Bidwell 1803
DISCUSSION- Robert is associated with Samuel Patton in 1790s. He could have been a brother of Samuel Patton Jr and William Patton, sons of [30] Saml Sr (d 1799 NC). Samuel Patton Sr lived on Coddle Creek, and was hence a neighbor of John SNODDY Sr., surely a cousin of the Snoddys of Penna and hence of Thomas Snoddy, sister of Mary Snoddy, Robert's wife. Links with the Edgars also support this theory.
Another Robert Patton lived here, and it is not always easy to know which man is intended in records. In the 1800 tax list there appears to be only one Robert Patton; was this the younger man? Poor men were not always taxed.
Need to look harder at Greene Co records prior to 1792.

[48] Pattons of Jefferson Co Tenn.
A. Robert Patton, born estim. 1769 NC?, married Wellmet Thornbrough on 17 July 1804 (date of bond) in Jefferson Co. She was born 1778 into a Quaker family, the daughter of Joseph and Rebecca Mills Thornbrough. Her family came from Deep River Monthly Meeting (Guilford Co NC) to the Lost Creek MM in Jefferson Co.; she married out of unity with the church. On 11 Nov. 1802 Robert deeded to James Thompson 25 acres of land near the head of Tuckahoe Creek "adjacent to the land of Robert Patton where he now lives, the land sold to the said Thompson by Thomas Patton". (Jeff. deeds I: 175) (Deed not recorded until 1811). Robert witnessed a deed in 1809 from Joseph Thornburgh to Thomas Pearce (Pierce). Not found in 1820 census. Robert was in 1830 Jeff. Co. census, close to Thomas Patton (b 1770's) and living fairly close to a younger Robert Patton (b 1800-10). Robert lived on Tuckahoe Creek; he dated his will on 12 Feb 1834. (3:414). Wellmet was born ca 1769 in North Carolina, was living with her son William in 1850 at age 71 in Andrews Co Mo.
Robert could have been a son of Robert (d 1804 Jefferson Co.) by a previous marriage. In Dec. 1797 John Maxwell received a grant of land on Long Creek, waters of Nolichucky River; the survey was done on 9 March 1795 and one of the chain bearers was Robert Patton- this could have been the older or younger man. Robert's 1834 will was very brief. In it he directs his wife Wellmet Patton to have sole right to all his personal and real estate and to "divide it out the heirs which and in what manner she may think best." He does not name these heirs here. Robert's widow sold 232 acres on 4 Nov 1840 and went with her son William to Mo.; in 1850 was living with him. The Andrews Co. census shows Wellmet Patton, age 71, born NC. From the 1830 census we see that Robert and Wellmet had the following implied children then living at home. Others could have been living away from home at the time.
a. son, b 1804-09
b. dau, b 1804-09
c. son, b 1810-14
d. dau, b 1810-14
e. son, b 1815-19
f. dau, b 1815-19
It is hard to be sure which later Pattons were his since Thomas Patton, surely his brother, lived near him, had a large family, and used similar names for his children. The researches of Helen Patton in the 1960's and carried further around 2000 by Richard Edwards have enabled us to ascertain at least the sons with a fair degree of certainty. Here is hypothetical summary of Robert’s children for purposes of reference and further research:
a. Robert Patton, b. 1807 Tn, ? died Nov 1830 Jefferson Co TN. See also [B] Thomas Patton.
b. daughter, possibly Elizabeth Patton, b ca 1811, marr Jesse Jones 11 July 1841/47?
c. Joseph Patton, b. 1812 Tn, married ca.1832 (marr record not found), on 1834 tax list; living 1840in Jeff. Co. close to William, known son of Robert. About 1841 they moved to Ray Co Missouri. In 1850 they were here; his wife is then shown as Ursula ..., b. 1812 Tenn. Descendants consistently claim that her name was Ursula WILHITE. Joseph died on 20 Oct. 1888 at Richmond, Ray Co., Mo. and his wife died on 23 Aug. 1878 also in Ray Co.
1) Robert Patton, b. 1834 Tn
2) Thomas Patton, b. 1836 Tenn
3) Madison Patton, b. 1838 Tenn
4) Henry Harrison Patton, b. 18 Febr.1841 at New Market, Tenn., married Mary Evelyn Brizendine on 16 Aug 1868 in Ray Co. They had issue- see 1880 census etc.
5) Elizabeth Patton, b. 1842 Mo
6) Joseph Patton, b. 1844 Mo
7) Houston Patton, b. 1846 Mo
8) John W Patton, b. 1847 Mo

[48] A. Robert Patton, m Wellmet Thornbrough
d. Thomas Cunningham Patton was born in 1811 in Tenn. according to the 1850 census of Washington Co Ark, as we will see. It is true that a second son born between 1811-15 was not living with Robert Patton in 1830. However, it is well to note that in 1830 Thomas would have been 19 and very likely working at another home prior to his marriage. Thomas Patton married Susannah Carney in Jeff. Co. on 30 July 1831 (bond # 2343). He first appears on tax lists in “Capt. Patton’s Co.” in 1833. Robert Patton died in 1835 and about 1837 Thomas departed for Washington Co Ark, where he is found in 1840- 1850censuses. Carney relatives also went to Ark. in the 1830s as documented by land sales. In 1850 we find Thomas as a blacksmith in Prairie Twp. in Washington Co. Ark. with his family. His first wife died and Thomas married second Lucinda Reed on 14 Feb. 1861 in Washington Co. Thomas died on 12 Jan. 1892 at Whitt, Parker Co Texas.
1) Mary Patton, born 1832 Tenn
2) David Patton, b. 1837 Tenn.
3) Elizabeth Patton, b. 1838 Ark.
4) Jane Patton, b. 1840 Ark.
5) Robert Patton, b. 1842 Ark.
6) Thomas Patton, b. 1844 Ark.
7) James Patton, b. 1846 Ark.
8) John Patton, b. 1849 Ark.
---- by Lucinda Reed:
9) Ganum Wesley Patton, born 22 Sept 1867 Fayetteville, Washington Co Ark, died 12 Oct 1934 Lake Thunderhead, Okla; marr. Susanne Adeline Cummin Robertson.
e. William Patton, b. 1818 Tenn, married Rebecca Parker on 28 Aug 1838 in Jefferson Co TN, living in 1840 in Jefferson Co. A woman age 60-70 lived with him, maybe his mother? He moved by 1842 to Andrew Co Missouri (formed 1841) where they were living in 1850. William died 1897 ... Co Missouri. Based on the fact he had a documented daughter named Wellmet, and his mother was living with him in 1850 he is certainly a son of Robert and Wellmet!
William married second Mary (Phillips) Rains, a widow.
1) Matilda Patton, b. 1839 Tn
2) Lacky Patton (dau), b. 1842 Mo
3) Samuel Patton, b. 1844 Mo.

[48] Jefferson Co Tenn.
B. Thomas Patton was born by 1774 (NC?), as a deed dated 1795 refers to land on "Big Spring and Indian Camp on headwaters of Tuckahoe Creek adjacent to Thomas Patton", so he was presumably of age to own land then. The first deed for Thomas himself is F:232 when he purchased 127.5 acres on the head of Tuckahoe Creek on 6 March 1800. The fact that he lived adjacent to Robert, above, makes one think he may have been a brother. This seems to be the Thomas Patton who married Martha Blakely on 14 April 1803 in Knox Co. Tn. He is on tax lists in Jefferson Co 1822- 1831 with about 300 acres, and on the 1830 Jefferson Co census. In that census he is shown with three sons and two daughters. Thomas left Tenn. in or around 1831 and went to Jackson Co. Mo. From there he went to Nodaway Co and then Gentry Co., Mo. By 1848 he was in Rush Twp., Buchanan Co. Mo. (785) [In fact, I do not find Thomas in 1840 or 1850 in census schedules. The only early Thomas in Mo census records did live in Jackson Co in 1840 but he is known to have marr Prudence Wood and was in another line. His son John was in California in 1850]. He is said to have died in 1855 in Missouri. Martha died in 1833 in Jackson Co. (785) Are there any estate records?
a. Anderson Claiborne Patton, b. 3 March 1804 Tn. (786), on Jefferson Co Tn tax lists from 1825- 1829; marr. Nancy Jane Lane 18 Nov. 1829. He was a “very early settler of Buchanan Co. Mo. “ (785) and was here in 1840 (census). By 1850 he owned a great deal of land and a number of slaves ( 785). He died intestate on 8 Dec. 1852 and there was predictably trouble over the distribution of his estate. His wealthy widow married second William McQueen in Buchanan Co. on 13 Oct. 1856. In 1860 she, her new husband and children by both marriages were living together in Buchanan Co. A. C. had at least eight children; six children were living at home in 1840 . Buchanan probate file #3329 names heirs of A.C.
1. Ambrose Patton, b 1832 Tn, went by 1856 to Conlitz Co, Washington Territory.
2. Margaret Patton, b ca 1831, marr James S.Jones in 1846 (785)
3. [Twila] Jane Patton, b 1834 Tn, seems to be identical with Martha Jane Patton. In 1856 James Seever and his wife Martha Jane sued the other heirs of AC Patton regarding the division of the estate.
4. Thomas Patton, b 1836 Tn, not marr
5. [Nancy] Ann Patton, b 1839 Tn, m Louis Allison (786)
6. Evaline Patton, b 1843 Mo.

7 Amanda Patton, b 1844, marr Jos Andrew Blakely 1866 (785)
8 Malvina Patton, b ca 1846,, m James F Davis in 1866 in Buchanan Co. (785)
9 Amelia J Patton, b. 1852 Mo, at home 1860
b. Margaret Patton, born 17 Nov 1805 Jeff Co Tn, d 27 Aug 1830, m Walter Bates
c. Robert Patton, b. 6 Oct 1807; "lived as a young husband and father four miles from Knoxville [Tenn.] and brought his young family to Jackson Co. Mo. in 1831. His daughter Martha was born near Knoxville in 1827 and married Aaron Linville in 1847 in Nodaway Co. Mo." (199) No such Robert is found here in 1840 census. Robert Patton married Lucinda Davis in Green Co. Tenn (adjacent) on 14 Aug 1827. Joseph Davis was bondsman. Lucinda Patton, b. 1807 Tenn, is the only Patton head of household on the 1850 Nodaway Co Mo. census. She has seven ch, youngest age 3 so her husband was alive as late as 1847. Robert died 4 Nov 1849 (786). See genforum post 3767 for more.

i. [Capt. John "Jack" Patton was born 13 Oct. 1821 Jefferson Co. Tenn., attended a Quaker school there until age ten. On achieving adulhood he began to farm on his own and pre-empted the first quarter- section in Nodaway Co Mo. He went to Gentry Co. 1847. Capt. during Civil War, he was taken prisoner but escaped and walked from Richmond to Mobile. John died on 8 May 1908. He married first Sarah Bowers on 12 May 1844and had two children by her. She died in 1850 when he was in California. He married second Almeda Sego and by her had six additional children. C. William Patton, born 1780-89, marr 18 April 1803 Sally Bidwell in Jefferson Co. Tenn. Bondsman was Robert Patton, surely his brother or father. William purchased 221 acres of land in Jefferson Co. "near and partly on Bay's Mountain" on 9 Oct. 1802; witnesses were Andrew Edgar and Thomas Patton. One could tentatively conclude that he was another son of Robert Patton (d. 1805 Jeff Co). He is said to have moved to Missouri. What county??
D. Jenny Patton, b. ca 1774, marr ... 1794 John Roberts in Jefferson Co Tenn. (?Same as John Roberts of 1820 Franklin Co Tenn census.)
E. Rachael Patton, born ca 1780, married Bonneville Poindexter in Jefferson Co. Date of bond, 20 Jan 1800.
F. Isabell Patton, born ca 1782, marr George Rowland in Jefferson Co. 6 April 1802. (Did not check Jeff Co records for him yet)

[48] Pattons of Jefferson Co. Tenn (continued)
Israel Patton was born here on 2 July 1800 (family records). He married Hannah Mills, a Quaker, on 20 June 1822 at Dandridge, Jefferson Co. Tn. In or around 1826 he moved to Georgetown, Vermilion Co., Ill. He died 25 April 1864.
Records:
1800 tax list- only 4 Patton households here- John, Robert, Thomas, Samuel. HOWEVER there were in fact two Robert Pattons, the older one evidently not taxed because he was a pauper and/or over age???
1820 census- Israel age 20, not a head of household, probably still living at home. NO PATTONS in 1820 Jeff Co??? Tax lists???
1826 Israel Patton of Jef Co. sold 100 acres on Beaver Creek to Robert PATTON of same Co. for $128.12 1/2c. (Jf Co deed bk T:215).

1850 Vermilion Co p 257, wf Hanna. Age 50, b Tenn

1864 will ; died 25 April 1864.
DISCUSSION_
Israel's parents are unknown. A Robert Patton married a Quaker woman here (Wellmet Thornbrough) in 1804, too late to be his mother. Did Robert have a prior marriage?? I am perplexed that the 1820 census apparently lists no Pattons in Jefferson Co?? Finding out where Israel got his land from could prove parentage if he inherited the land. A older Robert Patton died intestate here in 1804, a pauper. Maybe he gave away all his land in contemplatio mori??
If so Isreal would have been left an orphan, to be possibly raised by others.
[49] Pattons of Hickman Co. Tenn.- from South Carolina
Thomas Patton, b ca 1752, was living in Hickman Co in 1820, the year of the first extant census for this county. By this time any children were already grown and living on their own. It has been said that Thomas was personally acquainted with every voter in the county and served one term as tax assessor. Thomas lived near Mill Creek in 1829. (478) We do not find him in 1830 and he probably died in late 1829? Since there were only two Patton households living in Hickman in 1820, Thomas and John Patton (below), it seems reasonable to suppose that he could be the father of John. The Hickman Co deeds apparently do not show that John inherited land from Thomas but I have not looked hard at these deeds.
John Patton, born 1770-74, place unknown, but very possibly Abbeville Dist. So. Car. John is said to have married four times*- (1) Cynthia ... prior to 1796. Then he married (2) Pheriba Harris in Oglethorpe Co Ga. Co. on 13 Jan. 1796; probable mother of Miles Patton based on his first-born daughter's name. He could have been the John Patton on 1801 Jackson Co Ga. tax list; Jackson Co is just west of Oglethorpe. John married (3) Martha? Peacock. John Patton, Bunis Warren, and Billy Morrison all married Peacock sisters, daughters of Henry Peacock (b. 1749-54) of Abbeville, SC. (See Peacock line) and reportedly came to the 11th Dist of Hickman Co. from NC in 1818. (478) Study of the census records suggests that he came to Tenn. from Ga. by 1812. John Patton got 1000 acres, part of the "Patton survey". Other relatives who came to Hickman Co. from NC at the time were Joseph, John and Cleve McCann. (478) In the 1820 census we find the household of John Patton contained five males other than the head of household. Close comparison of the 1830 through 1850 censuses shows the data are consistent with John having five sons, as will be enumerated below. This John Patton is named in various deeds as owning land along Beaver Dam Creek. Reference is made in deed bk N:38 to Miles Patton, executor of the will of John Patton, deceased prior to 31 April 1849. No copy of the will has evidently survived. John evidently married (4) an Elizabeth. After his death his widow Elizabeth filed suit (29 Dec 1851) against Miles Patton for her share of the estate; she is identified as living in Holmes Co. Miss; she was probably not the mother of any of his children as she was born in 1800. Thought to be his children:
a. Miles S. Patton, b. 7 Oct 1797 Ga. ; he married Susannah (Milum) ca. 1830 (no early Hickman Co marriage records survive). She was born 19 July 1805 and died 12 Aug 1875 at Pyatt, Marion Co., Ark. He was executor for his father's estate, which included land on Beaver Dam Creek which was sold to Jackson Patton, the highest bidder. He served as Hickman Co. magistrate in 1850. (478) Miles moved ca 1851 for Arkansas and died in Marion Co. Ark on 13 April 1888. (198) Ch:
1) son, b 1825-29, on 1830 census, not there 1840. Is this George W Patton, who served in the Mexican War (1846), and applied for a pension from Hickman Co (file # 28328)? This man went to New Orleans by boat on 8 Oct. 1847 and then sailed to Vera Cruz. He served in Co. K, 3rd TN Regiment, commanded by Co. B F Cheatham. This refers to service in the Mexican War. George was a pensioner and had minor children Robert, William and Mary E. ("Old War MC 494, file #6851 TN, Mexican War")
2) William C Patton, b. 1829 Tenn, living 1880 Ark, marr (1) Virginia ... (b 1832 Tn), m (2) Nancy E. ... The fact he had a son named Fabitos is strong indication he served in the Mexican War! Four ch by Virginia; five by Nancy, not given here.

According to (478) he was John E G Patton, who settled in King Hollow at the mouth of Sugar Creek, in 1815. John and his father-in-law Edmond Miller were said to be pioneer stones masons of the district. This John could read and write; present in 1820 census (age over 45). Not found in 1830.

Jordan Milum was a Rev War soldier who married Mary Peacock in 1793 in Abbeville, SC. He settled on Milum Branch of Beaver Dam Cr in 1819. In the 1820 census the following families were living near John Patton_ John Patton, Thomas Patton, Wm Morrison, Jordan Milum, Samuel Milam, and John Peacock.
Another possible line:
Margaret Patton.(b1772SC-d1851 Hickman CoTN). About 1794 this lady married Levi McCollum (born 1770, probably in Guilford Courthouse NC, died 1821 in Hickman County. She was living in 1850 with her son John and family, see household # 804. According to a McCollum Family Bible, Margaret died in Jan 1851. Their children included:
a. Thomas McCollum, born 1795
b. William P[atton?] McCollum, born 17__ This William dies in New Orleans during the time of the Battle of New Orleans. There appears in subsequent generations a number of William Patton McCollum's. (My Great-Grandfather was in fact a William Patton McCollum --note from Jos McCollum)
f. Patton S McCollum
The Scottish traditional naming pattern suggests that Margaret's father is named William Patton. (Second son being named after the mother's father)
(Second daughter is named Jane and may be a clue to Margaret's Mother).

[50] John Patton 1787 Va?- 1863 MS
John Patton was born ca 1787 possibly in Va.; he is said to have married Elizabeth Bean in Franklin Co Tenn ca 1808. [According to Bean family records-another source has her as Rhoda Bean (618).]* She was born 10 Dec. 1789 in Ga, d/o Robert Bean (1764-1824) and Martha Womack (1754-after 1840). John entered land in Franklin Co on Noah's branch in 1807. The 1812 Franklin Co tax list shows William, James, and John Patton. He seems to be the John Patton who was mustered into service as a Lieutenant in the 28th Regt. of Tenn Militia on 21 Aug. 1814 in Bedford Co Tenn. *One source (618) suggests his father was "James Patton of Virginia". Verify??
Of the two John Pattons in 1820 Franklin Co census his entry shows 2 boys under ten, 4 girls under ten, and a wife age 16-26 (does not match birth year of 1789 given above). In 1830 there were two John Pattons in Franklin Co Tenn census. It is stated that his name appears on Marion Co Tenn tax lists but no years are given.
John moved to Itawamba Co Miss. in 1836 after selling their land in Marion Co. to Samuel Beene on 1 Aug. 1836 (Deed bk. D: 338). He purchased land in Itawamba Co. from William Beene on 4 July 1838 and was on tax roll, state census and deeds from 1836 to 1860. Elizabeth Bean's brother Lemuel and other Bean relatives went with John to Mississippi as did all of John's children except Asa and Sarah Womack, and James Robert Patton. There is a tombstone for John Patton in the Bean-Roulston Cem in Tenn; however it appears that this was a memorial placed here by descendants years later as John Patton was buying and selling land in Itawamba Co Miss through 1860 and died there in the year of 1863.
"In John Patton's estate settlement Robert is listed in Tenn., Isabella Beene in Tenn., and Sarah Patton Womack as also having died in 1863." On the first of Dec. 1863 William Patton, son, petitioned for letters of administration for the estate of John Patton, deceased; the actual administration dragged out over several years as crops had to be harvested and sold, slaves were hired out, etc. His children follow. (542, 543, 636)
a. Sarah Patton, b. 8 Jan. 1810, died 31 Jan 1863 Yalobusha Co. Miss, marr Asa Martin Womack (bro of Abner C Womack, who marr Isabella Patton, dau of [30.25] Wm and Mary Edgar Patton).

c. Martha Patton, b. 12 Nov. 1812 Tenn, marr John Dulaney (his second wife) 19 Dec 1848 Itawamba Co. They were living 1850 Itaw. Co. She died Baldwyn Ms. on 22 June 1907.

e. James Robert Patton, b. 25 July 1816, died 21 Feb 1886 at Marion Co. Tenn. He marr Elizabeth Raulston (20 Dec 1814- 23 Oct 1876). Marion Co marriage records burned in 1922. He served as a second lt. of the 12th Regt, Tenn. Infantry during the Mexican War. (543, 618) He lived a short while at Baldwyn Miss but returned to Tenn. where the family is found in the 1850- 1860 census of Marion County. (636)
